Excess Weight and Chronic Diseases: The Connection, Costs and Best Practice Strategies for Employers
Presented by Colleen Doyle, MS, RD
Poor diets, physical inactivity and excess weight are cross-cutting risk factors that contribute significantly to four of the six leading causes of death in the United States. The bad news: employers bear a substantial portion of the cost of today’s obesity epidemic in the form of higher health care costs, lower productivity, absenteeism, and higher workers’ comp claims. The good news: there are strategies employers can adopt that can help save both lives and money, making a compelling case for adopting a comprehensive worksite health promotion program.
This interactive session will connect the dots between excess weight and health; discuss the extensive impact that an unhealthy workforce has on a company’s bottom line; and will provide examples of evidenced-based worksite approaches that can help employers make it easier for their employees to live healthier lives.
