HEAL Hospital Forum - Helping Hospitals Move Toward Healthier-Eating Environments

Presented by Eileen Duin, CHES & Margaret Sabin

In addition to providing health care, hospitals are often one of the largest employers in a community. As institutions of health, there is an opportunity to impact the food choices available to hospital employees, visitors and patients by focusing on helping hospitals implement healthy eating strategies in their cafeterias, coffee shops and vending areas. The Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Hospital Forum was created in 2009 with the goal to provide an environment at health care institutions that promotes health and wellness for everyone – patients, families, and all employees. Participants will learn how the Forum is assessing the current healthy food environment in hospitals and is using that information to help hospitals overcome barriers and implement effective strategies to impact their healthy eating environment. Participants will also learn how the Forum is collaborating with other partners around the country, sharing best practices and evidence-based strategies.
