New Colorado Law Benefits Health of Working Mothers and Your Bottom Line

Presented by Jennifer Dellaport, MPH

In 2008 Colorado passed the Workplace Accommodations for Nursing Mothers Law. In 2009 the Colorado Breastfeeding Coalition received a grant to bring the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services project, the "Business Case for Breastfeeding" to Colorado. Nearly one year into the project four videos on breastfeeding and working have been posted on You-Tube as resources for mothers and employers and trained individuals have provided information and technical assistance to over 50 employers about the law and how to comply with it. Federal Health Care Reform contains legislation requiring employers to provide break time for nursing mothers. Because Colorado's law contains standards more favorable to the employee, employers are required to comply with Colorado law. This session will bring attendees up to date on the Colorado and Federal laws regarding accommodating nursing employees in the workplace.
