Use of Health Risk Appraisal, Insurance Claims and Clinical Outcomes Data to Impact Employee Health and Improve Workplace Productivity

Presented by Donna Lynne, DrPH

It is estimated that presenteeism costs American businesses over $150 billion annually. Employers are turning to worksite wellness programs as one tool to address presenteeism and worker productivity, especially given the increased costs of health insurance premiums and health care. Employers, employees and health plans have an opportunity to combine aggregated health risk appraisal, claims and clinical outcomes data in order to develop tailored worksite wellness initiatives that serve to increase productivity. Using group-specific health risk appraisal results and claims data, coupled with clinical outcomes data derived from the Kaiser Permanente Health Connect® electronic medical record, company reports present a global representation of the health of the employer’s work force.

This report presents a “clinical consultation for employers” that enables constructive targeted interventions developed in partnership between the health plan and the business to improve employee health and productivity. We will propose specific human resource and performance metrics that could be used by a company’s leadership to monitor positive changes in productivity, insurance expenses and employee satisfaction.
