Speakers 2010: Susan Motika, JD

Food Policy Coordinator, Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment

Ms. Motika is the Food Policy Coordinator in the Healthy Living Branch of the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. She received an undergraduate degree from Boston University and her JD from Northeastern University School of Law. She worked for Greater Boston Legal Services in housing and employment law and also served as a Massachusetts Assistant Attorney General specializing in consumer protection litigation and policy development in the areas of elder long term care, victim’s rights, and juvenile justice. A Colorado native, Ms. Motika retuned and worked as the director of the Community Justice Unit for then Denver District Attorney (now Governor) Bill Ritter, where she established juvenile restorative justice programs including a Community Court in Denver’s Cole neighborhood and legal education programs on community concerns such as graffiti, liquor licensing and nuisance abatement. Following that, Ms. Motika worked as the site coordinator for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Making Connections Denver initiative, focusing on quality early care education, employment and civic engagement opportunities for residents. She has been a member of the Colorado Bar since 1996.
